Six Days to Easter -- Day One

Day 1 -- Mary's Monday

It was “six days before the Passover,” and Jesus knew He would soon lay down His life as “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29).

He would spend much of His time that final week with His closest followers, talking to them, preparing them for what was soon to come. Among all that happened during those final days, John saw some of the unforgettable moments that took place.

Jesus attended a special dinner in His honor, hosted by Mary, Martha, and Lazarus, whom He had raised from the dead.

While the guests reclined at the table, Mary took some expensive perfume and poured it on Jesus’ feet. She then loosened her hair, thinking only of Jesus and all He had done for her. Without saying a word, she washed His feet with her tears and dried the excess perfume with her hair. Surely the fragrance of that loving gesture filled the house.

At this dinner, Jesus is honored by Mary’s extravagant gesture of love. She genuinely gave Him all, even at the scorning of others. What an intensely beautiful moment for both of them!

This act of love did not go unnoticed or unappreciated by Jesus and yours won’t either.

Monday’s Challenge — Set aside a time to express your gratitude, love and dedication to God today. Take a moment to fill your home with the fragrance of your love for Him. Think creatively and ask yourself, “What can I do that would physically express my love for Jesus?”
